The Stadium Gurus concept came about as a result of a father and son who are die hard sports fans. Old Guru has played and watched sports all of his life, and handed down that love of the game to Young Guru.

The bond between Old Guru and Young Guru took on a whole new level after the separation of Young Guru's parents. Old Guru would stop by to play catch nearly every day after work, and would plan trips to see games with Young Guru. These sporting adventures played a huge role in keeping the father-son relationship strong, even with limited time spent together after the sepration. Old Guru often hears from people how lucky Young Guru is to be taking in all of these games, but Old Guru firmly believes that he is the really lucky one in this endeavor.

Young Guru's very first professional sporting event was a Chicago Cubs game on Friday, May16, 2008, when he was just 9 months old. The Cubs beat the Pirates 7 to 4. Interesting notes from that game include the fact that Kerry Wood picked up the Save. Some may not remember that he went to the bullpen later in his Cubs career and became their closer. Also, Tom Gorzelanny was the losing pitcher for the Pirates. Gorzelanny actually joined the Cubs the following season. On a personal note, Old Guru separated his right (aka throwing) shoulder a few days before the game. Old Guru still remembers carrying Young Guru into the game with his left arm because his right arm was in a sling. That made getting through the turnstyle a little tricky, but made for a lasting memory. The Stadium Gurus have been attending games together ever since.

At the time this site was created in December 2019, Young Guru had already attended games in 25 MLB stadiums, 7 NBA stadiums, and 3 NHL stadiums. Old Gurus stadium count at that time was MLB - 26, NBA - 8, NHL - 6, NFL - 12. The Gurus intention is to attend every stadium in all four major sports. Given the number of NHL stadiums outside of the US, that might be a slightly unrealistic goal. However, the Stadium Gurus travel to stadiums like most people could never imagine, so we gladly accept the challenge. (Side note: Old Guru is working on a post to "define" stadium counts, as it pertains to new stadiums beind built, team relocations, expansion, contraction, teams sharing a stadium, etc.)

In order to realize our goal of attending every stadium, to document the process, and to help others who may be interested in following our lead (even if it is on a much smaller scale) StadiumGurus.com was born. It also doubled as a Christmas present for Young Guru that year, and included details on the next trip for the Gurus. Whether you want to live vicariously through the Gurus, or if you want the Gurus to help you plan your next trip, we hope you enjoy the site. And now....let's....Play Ball!
